Version 0 of PSE

Well, I, for one, think that it is a bad idea NOT to start right off with autoconf, etc. Since the gnu config utils get you so far on so many platforms, they should be an obvious choice.

I have seen several Tcl based packages that try to be smart and use Tcl as the installation utility; these things always seem to get bogged down at the interface level (Tk).

There is, of course, nothing wrong with having the configure process construct Tcl scripts which get evaluated from the Makefiles.

I guess I'm a little confused about why somebody thinks that methods do not already exist for doing complex installations.

Must be a windows problem, eh?

DKF: And what does PSE stand for anyway? It doesn't seem immediately obvious to me...

RS: Phil Ehrens, I presume ;-) who did, as proposed, "feel free to spin off a seperate page" (see Reference at bottom). But as titles are persistent, he might have picked a more tellling title...

PSE: Richard wins the prize. I THOUGHT I was just associating a comment with my name, instead of naming a "thread". Can somebody bail me out by renaming this thing?? Is there a simple way of nuking a Wiki page??
