''Old discussion (Jan 12-16, 2004) can be found in the history archive at [http://mini.net/tclhist/10684.58].'' ---- Page reboot. Let's try again: * this wiki needs a new front page (wiki.tcl.tk & mini.net/tcl) * that front page needs a page structure * and it needs a choice of pages to link to Suggestion #1: look at http://www.perl.org as example. Suggestion #2: focus on essentials, since all linked-to pages can be improved at will. End of May 2004, I'll switch to a fixed page. Preferably based on ideas added to this page. Current plans are towards this mockup [http://mini.net/wikitry6.html], with bold lines being links to wiki pages, as well as the left hand items. No fancy stuff. All images slapped together for lack of better so far. -[jcw] ---- [LES] I don't like that menu stealing screen. I really like the current wide cinemascope look. Also, note that the fonts in the mockup are smaller. Please read this [http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1065122&postcount=4]. Look for the word "cram". I really resent this modern tendency to narrow spaces and reduce fonts. ''??? Please explain. This is only about the '''front''' page of this wiki... -[jcw]'' Oh. I had missed that detail. Sorry. ''No prob. Anyway, what I'm hoping for is input on the contents of this thing. We're all way too techie to ever reach concensus on looks, feel, or taste, so I'm not even going to aim for that... -[jcw]'' It works for me (but then, I contributed to the design :-)). One thing to consider - we don't give prominence to Tk at all. Is it worth considering a "What is Tk" section under the "What is Tcl?" Something like ... Tk is a graphical toolkit for Tcl. It allows you to develop graphical applications that can run across multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux, MacOSX and many others. Or would this be diluting the message? - [stevel] [RS] The page is much tidier than the current, indeed. Maybe hint at i18n by writing "..on a wide variety of ''international'' platforms"? And, the rules will be twelve from 8.5, so "a dozen" might be a more robust way of writing... ''Steve, RS - Done, thx. -[jcw]'' ---- [jcw] - I've added links to the mockup, which is starting to no longer be one [http://mini.net/wikitry6.html]. Many of these links point to pages which fit in very awkwardly. Assistance is requested on: * suggesting changes in structure and phrases/terms used * suggesting better pages to link to * creating completely new pages for some of these links instead ---- [Category Tcler's Wiki]
