A progress bar is a widget that shows progress, usually in animation. Practical development of progressbars often involves questions of how to "keep a GUI alive during a long calculation".

Tk since 8.5 ship with a progress-bar widget [ttk::progressbar], while other widget packages also offer progress-bar widgets, like [progress] of [bwidget] and [feedback] widget of [iwidgets].
