One might hope for a lull in activity as hundreds of Tclers attend the Conference. Not this community, though; the good work just continues to roll out.
Administrative note: a welcome follow-up to one of these installments would be a testimonial or evaluation of the form, "I read article X, and it makes a good tutorial on the subject of Q."
- Tcl audiophiles continue to exhibit their creativity. Nat Pryce, for example, offers his Tkwav http://www-dse.doc.ic.ac.uk/~np2/software Neil Johnson has his own "sound-handling library" (see [L2 ]) and Chris Grigg analyzes the technical requirements he sees for "a cross-platform API for media playback support" (see [L3 ])
- More evidence for Tolstoy's hypothesis: "FreeWrap program turns TCL/TK scripts into single-file binary executable programs" with remarkable convenience http://home.nycap.rr.com/drlabelle/freewrap.html Dennis LaBelle's creation not only challenges TclPro Wrapper, but it entirely replaces Iso_Wish_Exe, which Daniel Alexander had announced just a few days earlier, and realizes Lieven de Cock's careful explanation of his own experiments on the same subject (see [L4 ])
- D. J. Hagberg authoritatively analyzes automation of telnet sessions from W95, and Daniel Herssin and denny add some of their own experience (see [L5 ])
- A thoughtful thread which compares objects and handles culminates in Donal Fellows' narrative of one particular set of design choices (see [L6 ]) and Paul Duffin's tutorial on how to think about the two categories (see [L7 ])
- Andrew Friedl bluntly but accurately disparages Tcl's disinclination to build on its existing interoperability (see [L8 ])
