Jeff Smith 2026-05-07 : A native Tcl/Tk port of Israel Dryer's Tkinter ttkbootstrap theme extension — bringing modern flat Bootstrap-inspired themes and widgets to Tcl/Tk 9 without any external dependencies. It can be downloaded from https://cloudtk.tcl-lang.org/Downloads/ttkbootstrap-tcl-1.4.1.zip This is Claude AI generated code.
Jeff Smith 2026-06-10 : I asked Claude AI what widgets it considered needed to be added to the existing Tk/ttk widgets. The "ttkbootstrap - Widgets Showcase" demo below is what it came up with. The package can be downloaded from https://cloudtk.tcl-lang.org/Downloads/ttkbootstrap-tcl-1.5.0.zip . Disclaimer - I don't know how to code in Tk so am unable to provide any support for this package. It was just a fun experiment with AI that I thought I would share with others and show the capabilities of Tcl/Tk 9.0. I particularly like the slide in/out sidebar.
APN 2026-06-28 : Jeff, very nice package and demo. One question - the tkinter ttkbootstrap is now up to version 1.20.x. Does your Tcl versioning correspond (roughly) to the tkinter version? How hard would it be to update the Tcl version to correspond to the tkinter 1.20?
Jeff Smith 2026-06-28 : APN, glad you like it! The Tkinter ttkbootstrap port to native Tcl/Tk initially took place on May 2 2026. Therefore it is based on the Tkinter ttkbootstrap between 1.20.2 and 1.20.3. Claude AI used its own version numbering for the native Tcl/Tk port. I think changing the version number to be the same or similar to the Tkinter version may give people the wrong impression that I am going to keep the native Tcl/Tk version in sync with the Tkinter version which I am not.
APN Understood, thanks. Any objections if I put it in the tcltk-depot repository for easier access?
Jeff Smith 2026-06-30 : APN, no objections at all!
Jeff Smith 2026-06-10 : Below is an online demo using CloudTk. This demo runs "ttkbootstrap" in an Alpine Linux Docker Container. It is a 56.1MB image which is made up of Alpine Linux + tclkit + ttkbootstrap.kit + libx11 + libxft + fontconfig + ttf-dejavu i3wm. It is run under a user account in the Container. The Container is restrictive with permissions for "Other" removed for "execute" and "read" for certain directories.
Jeff Smith 2026-05-07 : This demo now runs with Tcl9.
"Select a theme" at the top of demo to change themes.
