Version 14 of Life is too short for syntax

Tcl works. I like that.

Life is too short. I want to make stuff. I have 1 kid, 2 infants and no time. I am not a Tcl Advocate. I am not a Tcl booster. I will drop Tcl when something better comes along. Nothing better has come along yet (8 years and counting).

I want to build stuff. I don't care about feature-rich GUIs because feature-rich GUIs aren't about getting stuff done. The user needs tools to focus on the task at hand. I don't need a native spin widget [note, however, that recent versions of Tk do provide a spinbox ]. I want to provide useful intuitive apps and I don't have much time. Street Programming is my mode. [L1 ] is my inspiration. [L2 ] is my model. One day I will build an application that will allow me to complete [L3 ] (since many people have asked me when it will be done).

One day I will release an extremely useful application that will bring joy to non-programmers, adventurous souls, demented individuals, parents and children. It will (most likely) be coded in Tcl and released as a single executable (no install wizard). Nobody (but programmers) will care that it was coded in Tcl.

I'm done with language wars. I'm done with computer science. I'm done with language design. Tcl isn't the most elegant tool in the shop, but Alexander Calder worked wonders with scraps of metal, wire and some rivets.

jcw - I do. I agree. 100%. - Although I doubt anyone else cares ;-)

RS cares and agrees fully, too.

sheila - I would like to quote e. e. cummings, although I doubt anyone else cares:

   since feeling is first

  since feeling is first
  who pays any attention
  to the syntax of things
  will never wholly kiss you;

  wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

  my blood approves,
and kisses are a far better fate
  than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
--the best gesture of my brain is less than
  your eyelids' flutter which says

  we are for eachother: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
  for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

                       - e. e. cummings

(if someone feels this is too long for the page, edit out all but the first stanza, I think it fits.)

AMG: I think some of E.E.'s [L4 ] poems look like Lisp. :^)

RLH Though it seems a world doesn't care, I do.
