Version 9 of PocketICS

Updated 2006-02-28 22:24:42

MNO - I've been working on a client for Internet Chess servers such as the ICC (chessclub.com) and FICS (freechess.org) for the PocketPC using Tcl/Tk for Windows/CE. The PocketICS (aka pICS) homepage is at http://www.oakden.org/mark/pICS

It's fairly crude at present, The internal state engine is very minimal and configuration screens etc. are currently unimplemented.

Unfortunately it doesn't work quite right on PocketPC yet. I used to have some peculiar issues - see PocketPC socket/fileevent strangeness but it seems these don't happen if I use the 8.4a2 port of Reiner Keuchel. I now have a number of other issues which currently make the interface mostly unplayable, but which I can at least now work on fixing :)

The code now appears to almost work. I say almost since there is an issue with the chess clocks running which I suspect may be a race condition in my handling of them.

pICS currently looks a little like this:-

The script is at the following location: http://www.aowp08.dsl.pipex.com/mark/sw/pICS/PocketICS.tcl

Please bear in mind that it is buggy and at best alpha quality at present. Don't risk playing rated games until the bugs are fixed unless you don't mind losing rating points!
