tclsundown was a Tcl wrapper around Sundown , a Markdown processor written in C. It provided the ability to convert text from the markdown format into HTML and XHTML. It implemented many extensions to markdown as well including SmartyPants which translates plain ASCII punctuation characters into “smart” typographic punctuation HTML entities
