WISH CD-Writer is a simple program for CD writing and rewriting on Linux and other Unix-type operating systems. It requires at least Tcl and Tk 8.5, as well as these commonly available free programs:

  • mkisofs for creating CD images,
  • cdrecord for writing data CDs,
  • cdrdao for writing audio CDs.
  • TiMidity++ if you want to turn MIDI files into WAV files that can be used to make audio CD tracks.

Unlike many graphical front ends to mkisofs, cdrecord, and cdrdao, WISH CD-Writer is not intended to give the user access to as many CD-writing options as possible. It is intended to present computer users with as few difficult options as possible, while being as useful as possible for common purposes such as:

* copying data CDs (including bootable CDs);

* creating ("mastering") new data CDs for copying and distribution;

* backing up files on CDs;

* producing audio CDs from MIDI, WAV, or "raw audio" files.

WISH CD-Writer 2008 is available in a "tar.gz" package including the program, documentation, and a simple installation script for Linux/Unix operating systems.
